Appendix A — Method, Terminology, and Levels of Certainty

This appendix provides a compact reference for the method used throughout this book. It does not repeat the full argument of Chapter 31. Its purpose is to keep textual observation, historical reconstruction, prophetic interpretation, and theological conclusion visibly distinct.

The distinction is necessary because several kinds of statement appear side by side in this study. Some can be verified directly by comparing Hebrew and Greek wording. Others depend upon historical periodization. Others identify a prophetic symbol with a long historical power. Still others reconstruct the theological consequences of that identification.

When these levels are collapsed, an interpretation can disguise itself as translation, a historical inference can be presented as an established fact, and a redactional hypothesis can acquire the appearance of manuscript certainty. The method used in this edition is designed to prevent that collapse.

The source, the received form, the historical reconstruction, and the prophetic identification are related, but they are not identical. Every conclusion must be stated at the level supported by its evidence.

The Purpose of This Appendix

Unsealing Daniel’s Prophecy is the first volume in a three-book series. It records the discovery that opened the project: the identification of Philosophy as the Little Horn of Daniel 8 and the reconstruction of the 2,300-year period from 281 BC to AD 2020.

The second volume, Decoding Daniel, examines the complete Book of Daniel through the historical, moral, textual, and prophetic conclusions made possible by that discovery. The third volume, Decoding Apocalypse, follows the same conflict through Revelation, reconstructing its chronology and examining the textual layers that interrupted its historical continuity.

The three volumes therefore perform different functions. The first identifies the power and explains how the seal fell. The second tests the discovery across Daniel as a whole. The third extends the reconstruction through Revelation and its historical fulfillment.

This appendix gives the reader the distinctions needed to evaluate the first stage without confusing discovery with proof. The identification of Philosophy must be tested through wording, historical continuity, chronology, explanatory power, and comparison with competing interpretations.

Four Distinct Levels of Analysis

The present study moves through four levels. Each level asks a different question and requires a different kind of evidence.

LevelPrincipal QuestionTypical EvidenceRequired Language
1. Textual ObservationWhat does each surviving witness actually say?Hebrew, Old Greek, Theodotion, grammar, lexical form, additions, omissions, and variants.“The Hebrew reads…” “The Greek supplies…” “The witnesses differ…”
2. Historical ReconstructionWhat historical process best explains the people, kingdoms, institutions, and textual environment?Chronology, political history, philosophical schools, translation history, councils, institutions, and documentary evidence.“Historically…” “The evidence supports…” “A probable boundary is…”
3. Prophetic IdentificationWhich historical power or event corresponds to the complete prophetic profile?Symbolic correspondence, duration, sequence, function, historical continuity, and terminal event.“In my interpretation…” “I identify…” “In my reconstruction…”
4. Theological ConsequenceWhat changes when the prophetic identification is applied to religion, Christology, anthropology, and authority?Comparison between the recovered historical line and later doctrinal systems.“My conclusion is…” “This reconstruction implies…”

A statement at Level 1 does not automatically prove Level 3. The absence of the noun “sacrifice” beside ha-tamid is a direct textual observation. Identifying the continual with Revelation is a prophetic interpretation. The first opens the question; the second proposes the referent.

Likewise, the deaths of Lysimachus and Seleucus in 281 BC are historical facts. Identifying that year as the final boundary of the four horns and the beginning of the 2,300-year period is my prophetic reconstruction.

The Received Text, the Source, and the Interpretive Frame

The expression “received text” refers to the form transmitted through surviving manuscripts, printed editions, and translations. It is the indispensable evidence available to the reader, but it must not be confused automatically with the original prophetic wording at every point.

The “source” is the strongest recoverable form beneath the accumulated work of transmission, translation, expansion, and interpretation. No lost autograph is available, and this study does not claim access to one. The source is reconstructed only to the degree that surviving witnesses and internal continuity permit.

The “interpretive frame” is the world created when a translation, doctrine, or historical assumption determines in advance what the source is allowed to mean. A frame may arise through one supplied noun, but it becomes powerful when several choices reinforce the same conclusion.

Daniel 8 provides the central example. “The continual” becomes “the daily sacrifice.” Truth becomes righteousness or justice. Evenings and mornings become days. The setting right of the holy domain becomes purification. Together, these choices create a cultic script centered upon Antiochus IV.

The conclusion of this book is not that every Greek choice was produced by one malicious translator. The directly demonstrable point is that the Greek cluster carries an interpretation into the wording and directs the reader toward a particular historical answer.

Key Terms Used in This Edition

TermMeaning in This BookWhat the Term Does Not Mean
PhilosophyHuman Episteme claiming final jurisdiction above Revelation and determining what can be true, possible, or authoritative. It does not mean thought, logic, curiosity, study, or every philosopher and school.
EpistemeOrganized human knowledge elevated from a tool of inquiry into the final court over reality and Revelation. It does not mean that scientific knowledge or disciplined scholarship is inherently evil.
Little HornThe enduring prophetic power arising from the Greek successor world and operating through changing political, religious, and intellectual carriers. It is not identified here with every Greek ruler or with Antiochus IV alone.
SouthThe Ptolemaic environment and the method of absorption, translation, comparison, and universalization. It does not mean that every Ptolemaic act was peaceful or purely intellectual.
NorthThe Seleucid environment and the method of legal, civic, educational, priestly, and political subordination. It does not mean that every Seleucid act was coercive or that culture was absent.
The ContinualThe open lexical form of ha-tamid; in my prophetic interpretation, the continual witness and authority of Revelation. The Hebrew word itself does not lexically mean “Revelation,” and it does not contain the noun “sacrifice.”
SanctuaryThe domain in which Revelation is preserved, transmitted, recognized, interpreted, and authorized. It is not reduced here to one physical Temple or reconstructed as a Platonic heavenly building.
MelekThe human king appointed and authorized by God; the term keeps the royal office of Jesus visible. It is not a claim that the New Testament repeatedly preserves the Hebrew word as a technical title.
UnsealingThe moment in 2024 when I identified Philosophy as the Little Horn and the complete historical structure became intelligible. It is not the ending of the 2,300 years and does not extend the period beyond 2020.
CleansingThe continuing process of separating Revelation from textual completions, mythology, metaphysics, doctrinal control, and unauthorized interpretive jurisdiction. It is not one instantaneous event completed in 2020 or 2024.

Levels of Certainty

The conclusions in this book should be read through four levels of certainty. The labels do not eliminate judgment, but they prevent every claim from appearing equally established.

LevelDescriptionExample
Directly VerifiableA feature observable in the surviving wording or established chronology.Ha-tamid does not contain an explicit noun meaning sacrifice; the BC/AD calendar has no year zero.
Strong Historical or Textual InferenceA conclusion supported by converging evidence but requiring interpretation. The Greek wording creates a cumulative cultic frame; 281 BC marks the terminal boundary of the formative Diadochi age.
Redactional HypothesisA proposal that later wording, explanation, arrangement, or mythology entered the received form. The precise editorial stage through which national-prince angelology or a mythological layer entered a text.
Prophetic IdentificationA synthesis connecting symbol, chronology, historical power, and terminal event.Philosophy is the Little Horn; the period ended in 2020; the seal fell in 2024.

A lower level does not mean that a conclusion is unimportant. The central prophetic identification belongs necessarily to interpretation because Daniel does not print the modern name “Philosophy.” The purpose of the label is honesty concerning how the conclusion is reached.

A directly verifiable fact may support several interpretations. A prophetic identification must therefore stand through convergence rather than through one lexical observation. Philosophy must explain the Greek origin, the two political methods, the attack upon truth, the removal of the continual, the occupation of the Sanctuary, the long duration, and the terminal event.

The Fixed Chronological Distinctions

The chronology of this edition contains three stages that must not be collapsed.

DateFunctionWhat It Does Not Mean
281 BCThe final boundary of the formative four-horn successor world and the beginning of Philosophy’s measured dominion. It is not the birth of Greek thought or the date of every Greek translation.
AD 2020The end of the 2,300 elapsed years and, in my interpretation, the sounding of the Seventh Trumpet through the global rupture. It is not the completion of cleansing or the date when I first understood the prophecy.
2024The unsealing: the year in which I identified Philosophy as the Little Horn.It does not extend the 2,300-year period and is not a second prophetic ending.
From 2024 onwardThe continuing cleansing of the Sanctuary through textual, historical, theological, and public reconstruction. No arbitrary final year is assigned in this volume.

The fixed formula is:

The period ended in 2020. The seal fell in 2024. The cleansing continues from 2024 onward.

What Mekorah Can and Cannot Claim

Mekorah can expose supplied words, compare witnesses, identify interpretive effects, test continuity, classify seams, propose restored sequences, and distinguish historical facts from prophetic identification.

It cannot recover a lost physical autograph, name every editor, determine every motive, or claim manuscript support for reconstructions based primarily upon internal evidence. It cannot treat moral disagreement as proof of interpolation or remove a passage merely because it conflicts with the author’s theology.

A strong reconstruction explains both the source-line and the historical reason the received form developed as it did. The Antiochus interpretation, for example, was not invented from nothing. It arose because the Maccabean crisis provided a powerful historical memory and because the Greek wording organized the vision around sacrifice, days, and purification.

The method must also remain reversible. New textual evidence, stronger historical analysis, or a better reconstruction may require revision. An interpretation becomes another occupation of the Sanctuary when it no longer permits itself to be corrected.

The Author’s Responsibility

The first-person formulas used throughout this book are methodological safeguards. “I identify,” “in my interpretation,” and “in my reconstruction” show where the author has moved beyond direct observation into synthesis.

They do not imply hesitation about every conclusion. They prevent the conclusion from disguising itself as the wording of Daniel. The reader can then test the argument without being required to accept a claim of personal inspiration or institutional authority.

The discovery belongs to the author; the evidence does not. Dates, manuscripts, histories, philosophical texts, Pauline letters, conciliar formulas, and the events of 2020 remain public. A valid reconstruction must survive beyond the person who first proposed it.

This appendix therefore ends with the same obligation governing the book as a whole: preserve the source, expose the interpretive step, distinguish certainty from hypothesis, and allow every conclusion to stand or fail through evidence.
